How do you make Mercedes Benz and BMW look awkward with their performance sedans and that too on their home ground? Infiniti might have some pointers for you all. This year Detroit Auto Show witnessed the Infiniti’s concept for the Q50 Eau Rouge concept which is nothing less than spectacular and fascinating. The model comes with focused details which are both stylish and stunning. It is being contemplated that this model will be comfortable among other Euro sedans. Infiniti sure has started off with a bang!
The consumer ready Q50 is quite similar to this beast except for the front doors and the A-pillar which are left as far as Eau Rogue is concerned. The concept car is somewhat wider and lower and comes with a more muscular look and feel. It has been built with quite a strong look by making use of carbon fiber body injection. The front and rear fenders have been designed so that they protrude out at about 20 mm and this is what we meant by wider. Moving up to the waistline you’ll notice that the designers didn’t hold back and have come up with quite sharp designs. Moving further below, one may observe how the aero-sections have been laid out. These aero-sections are built from carbon fiber and run between the flared parts of the car and the wheels which are 21 inches.
To add more to this beauty, Infiniti has added a spoiler, big deck lid, and a carbon fiber diffuser. This diffuser is a peculiar one since it is able to cater for oversized tailpipes while being able to sport F1 styled brake lights. This is an obvious appreciation from the design team to the concept’s F1 influence (Belgium’s Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps features “Eau Rouge” corner which is considered to be one of the most famous corners in Formula One.)
Infiniti’s Executive Design Director, Alfonso Albaisa, said; ‘The design has a number of distinctive Formula-One inspired touches. In particular, the sculpted front wing assembly and the rear aerodynamic packaging take their cues from the RB9 race car. The rear fog light packaging is unmistakably Formula One.’
Although the car doesn’t own any defined parts when it comes to what’s under the hood but Infiniti has quite the idea for that as well. President of Infiniti, Johan de Nysschen, said; ‘If we built this car I would expect it to feature over 500 hp and 600 lb.ft of torque. The engine we are evaluating for the Q50 Eau Rouge is a big personality, V-cylinder engine with forced induction. I think our engineers have been waiting for a project like this.’
As of now, Infiniti has access to and might use a modified Q50 engine or maybe borrow Nissan’s GTR’s 545 hp twin turbo V6 and see how it works with the Eau Rouge. If they decided to take this route and add some more performance parts from the GTR, well the car would definitely turn into a performance beast.
The layout within is quite similar to the Q50, with a few and very subtle differences. The high grip sports wheel and the F1 style paddle – shifters will allow the driver to fully play with this beast of a car. The seats are sports seats and the peculiar stuff is the red-infused carbon fiber which has been incorporated into the doors and the centre console and makes the car look quite sleek.
As of now, the Q50 Eau Rouge is only a concept, however, Infiniti might decide that it wants to take on BMW and Mercedes and if it does we are in for quite a ride, don’t you think?
