Introduction to Build Solar

Build Solar is a spin out company that was created by Professor Tapas Mallick, world-leading renewable energy scientist, and Dr. Hasan Baig, an entrepreneur and solar scientist. Build Solar collaborated with a team of scientists and researchers from the University of Exeter to come up with an amazing solution for the energy crisis that we are facing. The solution is solar powered bricks that can transform the way buildings are built. Imagine a 20-story building that is self-sustainable.Solar Bricks By Build Solar Will Power Entire Buildings by 2018

The beauty of this solution lies in the fact that the solar powered building blocks can be integrated into any construction site. University of Exeter said, “Many construction materials deployed on the exterior of buildings could become energy-generating and making slight adjustments to the manufacturing process of building materials could have a fundamental impact on the planet’s energy requirements.”

The Process

This is achieved by making use of solar powered bricks that feature an array of intelligent optical elements tasked with focusing sunlight onto small-sized cells. The best thing about this design is that it is scalable. By making use of ‘Solar Squared’, patented glass blocks, builders can integrate the attractive glass facades into the structure while also providing the interior with more sunlight. These glass bricks also enhance thermal insulation – it’s a win-win.

Professor Tapas Mallick said, “It’s an exciting venture and one that should capture the imagination of the construction industry when looking to develop new office blocks and public buildings or infrastructure projects such as train stations and carparks.”

As of now, the project is in prototype phase and the team is looking for sites to create a model of this amazing and innovative concept. The idea is to attract funding so that the start-up can happen. Kickstarter maybe? What do you think of this amazing feat? Let us know!
