Lamborghini’s Huracan Spyder has made its debut at the 2015 Frankfurt Auto Show.  The Lamborghini Gallardo Spyder was the most successful convertible mode Sant’Agata ever built and now we get to see the car that takes its place.

The Huracan Spyder has a soft cloth top that opens in 17 seconds with an electrohydraulic pump, even at speeds of up to 31 mph.  The Spyder uses the exact same 602-hp 5.2 liter V-10 as the coupe, the same seven speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, and the very same all-wheel-drive system.  The only changes to the V-10’s formula are the addition of stop-start and cylinder deactivation, the latter of which shuts down one of the Huracan’s cylinder banks entirely, leaving the engine to run as an inline-five.  These fuel saving tactics are also being added to the coupe for 2016.

According to Lamborghini, the Huracan Spyder’s aluminium and carbon-fiber chassis is 40 percent stiffer in torsion than the old Gallardo droptop, and the new car’s bodywork generated 50 percent greater downforce.  The car weighs one less than 3400 pounds.  Built out of a weight-saving combination of aluminum and carbon fiber, the Huracán Spyder’s chassis is 40% stiffer than that of the Gallardo Spyder, its predecessor. A fully flat underbody and a large air diffuser built into the rear bumper highlight the efforts that Lamborghini went through to make its newest convertible as aerodynamic as possible.

The top can be ordered in black, brown or red, and the panel right about the windshield can be either left with the Huracan emblem or personalized.  The buyers can also choose from a palette of eleven colors and from several alloy wheel designs.

The Spyder is claimed to hit 62 mph in 3.2 seconds on its way to a 202 mph top speed.  Other than the choice of roof color and 11 paint colors, when it goes on sale next spring the Huracan will offer five interior trim packages, 17 interior colors, and many other customization options.  The Lamborghini Huracan Spyder is scheduled to go on sale in time for the 2017 model year.  It will cost roughly US $210,000, before taxes.
