The Amazing Tesla Model X Finally Revealed

By -

Tesla have finally unveiled their new Model X car after many delays in full production trim. It has many new features to add to its amazing list of accolades with a mileage of 414km (less than the Model S), three rowed seating, falcon wing doors and a whole new, futuristic sounding “Bioweapon Defense Mode.”

Lets get right into it, shall we? The Model X will be supported by Tesla’s “skateboard” chassis which means that the 90kW/h battery pack is housed within the chassis and powers the front and the rear axles, giving the Model X a 4WD system. Range and batteries has never been an issue with any of Tesla’s cars and the same is the case with the Model X. Unless you’re planning to go interstate, the proclaimed 414km should be enough for your daily routes from home to school or office. Upgrading to the performance 90D will reduce that range to 402km which will still be enough. Charging can be done using a wall charger at home or any of the Supercharger stations across America and Europe.

Beware! Some insane acceleration stats follow. The top of the line P90D Ludicrous will reach 0-100km/h in just 3.2 seconds. That’s supercar level in an electric car. The non-performance botched down version called the 90D will reach 100km/h from a dead stop in 4.8 seconds. That is still a brilliant time compared to other normal hatchbacks. To put that into context, the Porsche 911 Turbo takes the same 3.2 from 0-100km/h, while the Audi RS6 takes 3.9 seconds to reach the same speed. Let that sink in for a moment and then repeat after us, well done Tesla!

Looks wise, your Tesla Model X looks no less than the Mercedes SLS. That is if you look at the doors only. The falcon wing doors look amazing and Tesla says they are more practical as well, making the third row of seats more accessible. The dual-hinge design of the doors ensures that you can open them even in cramped spaces which is helpful especially if you have a small garage. The ultrasonic sensor in the door means that you don’t have to worry about your falcon wings being clipped by your garage roof.

As the Tesla Model X is a SUV, it can be expected to carry much more than just humans, with bikes, strollers and carts topping the list. Thanks to a huge boot space and foldable seats, that should not be a problem. It can also tow 2268kg which is the same as a Ford Explorer.

The new air filtration system has been called the Bioweapon Defense Mode that makes the air inside the car as clean as the cleanest of hospital wards, and we mean that in a good way. The air filtration system includes a huge HEPA filter that can be used at its maximum capability. This is especially useful if you’re surrounded by toxic air and need pure, fresh air to be able to breathe properly. Who knows something like that might be a possibility in the future?

The all electric Tesla Model X is the only one of its kind in the SUV market and is exclusive to America at the moment. Audi does plan to release an all-electric SUV by 2018 but until then, the competitors for Model X will be hybrids like the Volvo XC90 T8 and the Audi Q7 e-tron. The two available models are expected to hit the roads soon and will cost $132,000 (P90D Signature) and $142,000 (P90D Founder) respectively. The standard 90D and the non-special P90Ds will cost even less which is a news always welcome.
