The advancement in technology and science have us standing at a point where the old classic tales and coloring books just don’t really stimulate a child’s brain like the smartphone and tablet does. Keeping this is mind, Disney Research team has come up with an amazing project.
The project makes use of augmented reality for transforming an ordinary 2-D drawing into an amazing 3D character. Time to put your geeky hats on folks; augmented reality is nothing more than simply making use of technology to connect the real world with the digital world. Therefore, even a smartphone and a tablet would be able to capture the drawing that is being colored on paper and project it in three dimensions in real-time while the kid continues to color the drawing.
The project demonstration video, attached at the end of this article for your pleasure, clearly shows how well the virtual character is being updated while the drawing on paper is being colored. The live texturing technology was unveiled at the IEEE International Symposium on Mixed and Augmented Reality. Sadly, there is no time-frame to when this technology shall be made available to the consumers since it is still being developed. However, we just can’t wait to get our hands on it for our children’s sake, of course.
