Dubai has revamped itself in the past 50 years to stand as a symbol of modernity and boasts the true power of engineering, and the truly breath taking nature of architecture. It is popular for its many beaches, among a myriad of other things, and these beaches are about to get smarter.
The Smart Palm is set to grace Dubai’s beaches, adding a technically laced shadow to the wide expanses frequented by locals and tourists alike. The Smart Palm will provide high speed, free Wi-Fi and a charging station for its users, among many other things.
This smart palm is an electronic, palm shaped device that stands tall enough to provide shade and is equipped to provide many electronic facilities to the users. The tree sports a touch screen that will have information related to transportation and tourism in Dubai, weather details and sea conditions.
These artificial palm tees are 6 meters tall, capable of supporting users on up to 50 points, and act as a charging point for 8 users at a time, which allow charging speeds 2.5 times that of a general charging port. A central control centre will monitor all trees throughout the day. The tree will also feature a security button as well as CCTV infrared camera, capable of 360 degrees view.
But we have saved the best foe the last. Smart palm will run on solar energy, sustaining itself on mono crystal solar panel which provide 21% increase in efficiency as compared to conventional solar panels. Photovoltaic panels fitted in the shape of palm leaves is how the designers fit the smart palm with its energy source, giving the smart palm not just the essence of its original counterparts, but its food too. It only seems fitting to replace photosynthetic with photovoltaic on a techno tree, retaining the life giving stature of leaves on a tree that lives to give.
A total number of 103 Smart Palms will be installed across the many beaches in Dubai before the year ends, and we can’t wait for the innovation Dubai brings us following the Smart Palm project.
