The Etch Clock Is Overpriced But Worth Your Money
What you’re looking at goes by the name of Etch clock. It shows time in 3D digital numbers every minute with the etching disappearing and refreshing itself every minute. The Etch clock is stylish and classy when it comes to looks.
Of course, the clock isn’t made of stone or marble. It has been created using aluminum and an elastic membrane. Etch transforms the elastic membrane into digital numbers while engraving on the elastic surface. The engraving comes smoothly and in a warm and relaxing actuation. After displaying the time, the elastic membrane goes back to its initial setting.
We assume that it makes use of reverse 3D process for displaying the time. This is hypothetical since the website of Etch doesn’t say much about the process. We believe that a tiny pump creates a vacuum and the elastic membrane is sucked into the chamber thus revealing the numbers. The effect is simple but done correctly makes for a unique timepiece.
If you like the Etch clock, you can purchase it for a little over $1,300. It comes with smartphone connectivity and a companion app. As of now, it is only limited to grey color. You can opt for time display via the companion app; have it display every minute or you can go for the power save mode. In the power-save mode; the time is displayed only when the clock detects noise in the room.
