Jessi Combs – Fastest Woman On Four Wheels – a professional racer and former Mythbusters star, died on Tuesday in Oregon while trying to break her own speed record. The news came from her team member and partner, Terry Madden, who said that the 36-year-old passed away in a ‘horrific accident’ despite the fact that every effort was made to save her life.
Terry Madden wrote in an Instagram post on Wednesday, ‘I have never loved or been loved by anyone as much as this amazing woman [Jessi Combs] she was truly my unicorn and I enjoyed every single minute that I had with her. She was the most amazing spirit that I have ever or will ever know. I’m not ok, but she is right here keeping my (sic) going. I made her a promise that if this didn’t go well that I would make sure and do good with it.’
Jessi Combs had appeared on twelve episodes of Discovery’s Mythbusters season 7. This took place while the regular ‘Build Team’ member Kari Byron was unable to take part on account of maternity leave. Byron took to her Twitter account for sharing a message about the loss. She said, ‘So sad to hear about Jessi. She was a badass. Always pushing limits. Sending smiles into the universe for her.’ Jessi Combs, the fastest woman on four wheels, had also been the co-host on Spike TV’s Xtreme 4×4 and Velocity’s Overhaulin’ automotive reality series.
She was a South Dakota native and had earned the title of Fastest Woman on Four Wheels after she drove at 398 mph back in 2013. As per the local news, the Bureau of Land Management and the sheriff’s office are conducting an investigation of the accident. Discovery also released a statement about the loss of Jessi Combs on Wednesday.
The statement read, ‘The Discovery and MotorTrend Family is deeply saddened to learn of the tragic passing of Jessi Combs. She was a friend and colleague, an icon in the industry, and an undeniable force of nature who left an indelible mark on the car world. Our thoughts are with her family and loved ones.’
Adam Savage, the host of Mythbusters, said, ‘I’m so so sad, Jessi Combs has been killed in a crash. She was a brilliant & too-notch builder, engineer, driver, fabricator, and science communicator, & strove every day to encourage others by her prodigious example. She was also a colleague, and we are lesser for her absence.’
