Wheels that spin in every direction or omnidirectional wheels have already been used is specific vehicles like the forklift. However, that is set to change because a London based inventor called William Liddiard has invented special, plug-and-play set of omnidirectional wheels that can be attached to cars and other vehicles too.
These will allow the car to move in any direction, spin 360 degrees and slide into parallel parking space with ease, without having to reverse inch by inch. As he wrote on his video description on YouTube, these wheels are different from their counterparts already available in the market.
“Unlike other omni capable wheels, my wheels do not require the vehicle to be built around them. This is a world first bolt-on application for anything with wheels. They are stronger, faster, and more accurately controlled than prior art. They can take a beating. The tires can have the same build characteristics as regular tires. Now you can drive in all directions, and turn on the spot, when needed.” Says Liddiard.
Called the Liddiard Wheels, they do seem to be doing what is promised as the inventor is seen doing some insane stuff in the following video. He put them on his old Toyota Echo and applied 24,000 pounds of torque directly on them to do some crazy stuff with the car. He now relies on the power of social media to spread the word so he can find a sponsor to refine his product and actually take it to the market.
