Robotic Applications in The Manufacturing Industry

By -

The changes in rules and trends in the manufacturing and automotive industry have increased the significance and relevance of manufacturing robots in the industry. The face of manufacturing is being changed by these robots. During the production process in these industries, manufacturing robots are highly utilized in one way or another. The manufacturing robots are mostly used to perform dangerous tasks or tasks that are unfitting for human beings.

It is difficult to accomplish the reliability and efficiency of manufacturing robots in any other way. They improve the quality of the product significantly. The precision of the production process is highly maintained no matter how repetitive the process is.  Moreover, the safety of the workplace is highly maintained. The robotic applications in the manufacturing industry are plenty. Below are some of the most utilized robotic applications in the manufacturing industry.

Dispensing robots

Dispensing robots are used for painting, applying adhesive, gluing and spraying. These tasks are highly toxic and require consistency throughout the process. It is, therefore, difficult to find highly qualified personnel to do the job. Hence, it is suitable to use these manufacturing robots to do the complex process in a very precise manner. Moreover, these robots are cost saving. They have a flowmeter; the amount of wasted material is significantly reduced. The flowmeter ensures that the paint is distributed equally in all the parts. This is a source of savings.

Collaborative robots

The programming and design of a collaborative manufacturing robot allow for interaction with humans. The two, interact and work together to achieve the anticipated results that could not be achieved if they worked on their own. When a human worker utilizes these manufacturing robots to perform the hard or unsuitable job, their productivity increases. Additionally, the humans are not eliminated completely rather the manufacturing robots are there to offer assistance to them hence increase their productivity.

Material holding and material removal

This is the most widespread application of manufacturing robots. These robots are mostly used in performing tasks that are not suitable for human beings. Manufacturing robots used in material holding perform various tasks such as loading and unloading, palletizing, packing, part selection and transferring of the part.

Material removal process such as cutting and trimming can be done more effectively by manufacturing robots due to their high repeatability and consistency.

Assembly operations

Assembling operations in the manufacturing industry include fixing, inserting, press-fitting and disassembling. Manufacturing robots usually perform this tasks at high speeds and with great precision compared to humans. Most assembly robots can be easily reconfigured to perform the required task effectively.

These manufacturing robots are usually fitted with vision and force sensing systems.  The visual system allows the robot to pick the right component on the production line. The force sensing system allows the robot controller to get the feedback on how well the parts are fitted and the amount of force being applied. These technologies make these robots more cost-efficient and provide the desired quality of the product.

Welding

Manufacturing robots utilized for this purpose are used for arc welding and spot welding. The automation of the welding process has been made easier by the decreasing prices of the welding robots. Usually, this robot may be guided by a machine vision or directed by a predetermined program. It may also use the combination of the two methods. The robots have the ability of welding parts of all sizes and shapes with high speed and efficiency. Additionally, these manufacturing robot has a significant load capacity.

Robot-based inspection systems

These systems have highly programmed vision systems that are powerful and flexible to detect flaws in parts and ensure correct part assembling is done. The vision systems inspect the parts accurately.

The affordability of manufacturing robots has increased today compared to the past. These robots are upfront, hence easy to install and use. Manufacturing robots are more reliable and offer toughness in the diverse product line.  They, therefore, enhance productivity and security in the manufacturing environment. Manufacturing robots are definitely the future of manufacturing.
