Skeleton Flower Turns Transparent upon Contact with Water
This amazing white flower is known as Diphylleia grayi and is quite a peculiar and beautiful flower. The unique aspect of this flower is the fact that it turns transparent when it comes into contact with water. The effect is mesmerizing when it rains and the flowers turn transparent. Due to this ability, the flower is known as ‘skeleton flower’.
This particular plant grown in Japan and China on wooded mountainsides that are moist and located in cold regions. The flower can be recognized easily due to the large and shaped like umbrella leaves. Small clusters of flowers that are white sit stop on the leaves then. The plant is perennial and can reach heights of 0.4 meters while the flowers bloom during mid-spring to early-summer in shade. The white pigmentation is lost when the petals soak up water. The white pigmentation becomes visible again when the flower dries.
