These Tiny Sculptures Are Edible But Too Cute To Eat!
Danling Xiao’s instagram project called Mundanne Matters has people drooling and awing at the same pace! This genius takes everyday items, most of them edible, and sculpts them into tiny characters and/or objects, photographing them to befit their own little story on a magical stage. Her aim? The objects are “no longer mundane — it is often surprising and delightful.”
Xiao’s creativity has opened untouched avenues for her, and her art has raised questions that are not only enjoyed being answered, they give one a fresh perspective on the simple life around ourselves. “[It] raises a question: is mundanity really mundane? Maybe it is our ignorance. Because if we look closer, if we slow down our pace and be more mindful of our surroundings, we can actually discover a wonderland inside every mundanity,” she says.
With Mundanne Matters, Xiao aims to instill gratitude among her followers. “We complain about cold weather, rainy weather, broken shoes, smelly farts, inattentive service, dirty dishes, pain, sickness, etc. Our life is too good, but we forget that bad things are part of life. We forget that they are actually not that bad either.”
When we see these sculptures in their minimal yet magnanimous glory, it transcends commonality and gives us a fresh outlook on all things small and big around us. A fresh lesson in perspectives at hand, along with Xiao’s tickling captions, you are bound to refresh your senses, think a little differently about everything around you and put an effort into discovering a different dimension to everyday events.
